Your Ultimate Offshore Angling Experience includes:

Elite Sportfishing Action
  • Battle the Deep: Test your strength against hard-fighting, heavy bottom-dwellers like Kob (Kabeljou) and Cape Salmon, pulling trophy fish straight up from the Eastern Cape's deep structural reefs.
  • Explosive Surface Strikes: Experience the pure adrenaline of high-speed surface strikes as powerful, predatory Yellowtail and Garrick hunt along dynamic ocean current lines.
  • Ocean-to-Table Luxury: Bring your responsibly harvested catch back to port, where our crew will professionally fillet it for an unforgettable, ultra-fresh seafood dinner.
Master Class Navigation & Adventure
  • Tech-Driven Success: Fish alongside elite local skippers who leverage advanced GPS plotting and high-definition fish-finders to pin-point and track highly active schools.
  • The Thrill of the Launch: Feel the pulse-pounding excitement of a traditional South African surf launch, masterfully cutting through coastal shore breaks to access the open ocean.
  • Wild Coastal Marine Safaris: Cruise parallel to dramatic, rugged coastal cliffs while sharing the water with spectacular marine life—including pods of dolphins, seals, and majestic seasonal whales.
This is an action-packed, full-day offshore expediton launching from premier coastal hubs like Algoa Bay, Port Alfred or St Francis Bay.  Operating right out of the founders' home province, this private charter accesses rich marine feeding grounds and structural reefs along the rugged South African coastline.

For international or domestic anglers flying into the province for multi-day overland expeditions, Epic Paradise Tours arranges a personalized greeting service. A private 4x4 or shuttle vehicle will pick up your group directly from the arrivals terminal at Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport (PLZ) in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth).

If you are staying at one of our partnered game reserves or coastal beach lodges within the Sunshine Coast or Sunday's River Valley region, the tour coordinators can manage direct door-to-door ground transfers to get your group to the water seamlessly.

1. Protection Against the Elements
  • Layered Clothing: Early mornings on the open ocean are cold, while midday can be scorching. Wear a warm fleece or hoodie over a lightweight shirt.
  • Windproof & Waterproof Jacket: Essential for staying dry during a traditional surf launch and protecting against wind chill and ocean spray at high speeds.
  • UPF 50+ Sun Apparel: Lightweight, long-sleeve UV fishing shirts and a neck gaiter (buff) to shield your skin from intense saltwater reflection.
  • Wide-Brimmed Hat or Cap: Ensure it has a tight fit or a secure chin strap so it does not blow off while the vessel is running.
  • Polarized Sunglasses: Crucial for cutting through severe water glare, reducing eye strain, and helping you spot surface action.
2. Footwear & Deck Comfort
  • Non-Slip, Non-Marking Shoes: Rubber-soled sneakers or specialized boat shoes with excellent wet-grip traction.
  • Avoid Open Sandals/Flip-Flops: Heavy sinkers, sharp hooks, and thrashing fish make closed-toe footwear a mandatory safety requirement on deck.
3. Health & Personal Care
  • Seasickness Medication: The coastal waters of the Eastern Cape can experience significant swells. Take a preventative dose (like Cyclizine or Stugeron) the night before and another an hour before launching.
  • Reef-Safe Sunscreen & Lip Balm: High SPF, waterproof formulas. Apply thoroughly before launching and reapply every few hours.
  • Personal Medications: Bring any specific prescriptions you might need during an 8-hour stretch at sea.

Comprehensive Price Inclusions
  • Private Vessel Hire: Full use of a commercially registered, dual-outboard sportfishing hull for 6 to 8 hours at sea.
  • Commercial Skipper & Deckhand: Professional guiding services, active fish-tracking using advanced onboard electronics, line rigging, and live bait setup.
  • Fuel Allocations: Complete fuel costs required to reach targeted deep-water reef systems and offshore pelagic current zones.
  • Premium Gear Inventory: Use of top-tier multiplier and spinning rods and reels (such as Shimano or Penn setups) scaled to target species.
  • Terminal Tackle & Lures: Fully stocked tackle supplies including wire traces, down-riggers, specialized bottom-fishing rigs, and trolling lures.
  • Fresh Local Bait: Daily prepared chokka (squid), sardines, or reef baits to match targeted migrations.
  • Catch Processing: On-deck catch management, safe storage on ice, and professional filleting/cleaning services upon returning to port.

Standard Pricing Exclusions
  • Recreational Fishing Permits: Must be purchased individually by each angler at a local Post Office prior to launching (~R70).
  • Crew Gratuities: Optional tips for the hard-working skippers and deckhands handling lines and prepping catches.
The most likely catches include:

1. Pelagic Apex Game Fish
These powerful fighters dominate the warmer offshore waters and are the ultimate targets for sport fishing:
  • Tuna: Yellowfin Tuna (often weighing 50–100+ kg) and Longfin Tuna (Albacore) are incredibly abundant, particularly in the deep Atlantic and Indian Ocean convergence zones.
  • Billfish: Iconic species like Black Marlin, Blue Marlin, Striped Marlin, and Sailfish are regularly targeted during the warm peak summer months (November to April).
  • Dorado (Mahi Mahi) & Wahoo: These high-speed, acrobatic fish thrive in the warmer currents and offer intense fights alongside magnificent vibrant colors.
2. Powerful Inshore & Reef Species
Closer to the rugged cliffs and reef structures shown in your image, anglers target hard-fighting resident and migratory species:
  • Yellowtail Amberjack: A staple of South African saltwater angling, these aggressive fish love reef drop-offs and put up a brutal, deep-diving struggle.
  • Snoek: Highly popular in the cooler Cape waters, these toothy, predatory fish are caught in large numbers, especially during the winter months.
  • Kabeljou (Kob) & Geelbek (Cape Salmon): Highly prized table fish found near sandy bottoms and offshore reefs.
  • Garrick (Leervis): A premier surface-smashing game fish highly sought after by sports fishermen using live bait or topwater plugs.
3. Apex Predators
  • Sharks: Deep-sea excursions frequently hook into large shark species including Mako, Hammerhead, Thresher, and Bronze Whalers
  • The Safety/Weather Guarantee: Because sea conditions off the rugged Eastern Cape coast can be highly unpredictable, the skipper retains sole authority to evaluate the safety of the launch. If your trip is cancelled by the captain due to rough swells, high winds, or unsafe weather, you will first be offered an alternative date to reschedule. If a date cannot be coordinated to match your schedule, you qualify for a refund of your deposit.
  • Client-Initiated Cancellations: Because a private vessel reservation blocks out a highly limited launch window exclusively for your group, short-notice client cancellations forfeit the deposit. Last-minute cancellations or "no-shows" at the harbor dock on the morning of the trip are non-refundable and carry a 100% booking penalty.
  • Motion Sickness Exclusion: Please note that early returns to port due to individual seasickness or motion sickness do not qualify for a partial or full refund. Taking preventative medication the night before your launch is highly recommended.
